So, over spring break I found a Spiderman basketball jersey. This is the first time I think I’ve ever seen an article of clothing and immediately thought, “I need this now for reasons I can’t articulate”. Haha, impulse buys I guess…

More wandering about Baltimore. Fell’s Point and Inner Harbor.

I haven’t been to these places in ages…it’s like they always say, sometimes you don’t really get to see your city until you have to show someone around.

It’s not bad

RA training this summer.

Apparently, hula hoops need to be gigantic to actually work on adults. Also, I was the only one brave enough to actually try it.

So tonight was the first night I’ve gotten dressed, or, at least worn a tie, in a quite a long time. The family went out to a nice restaurant downtown to celebrate the holiday and my little brother getting into college. It was really nice because we had a great view of a fireworks show that was occurring at the same time.
I’ve been trying to actually do things this winter break, but with a combination of sleeping in until noon, and then holiday shopping, and holiday festivities I haven’t been up to much. I still haven’t unpacked my suitcases, my room is currently a battlefield of clothes and bags. I should probably just unpack now actually…

Whether Armilla is like this because it is unfinished or because it has been demolished, whether the cause is some enchantment or only a whim, I do not know. The fact remains that it has no walls, no ceilings, no floors: it has nothing that makes it seem a city except the water pipes that rise vertically where the houses should be and spread out horizontally where the floors should be: a forest of pipes that end in taps, shouwers, spouts, overflows. Against the sky a lavabo’s white stands out, or a bathtub, or some other porcelain, like late fruit still hanging from the boughs. You would think that the plumbers had finished their job and gone away before the bricklayers arrived; or else their hydraulic systems, indestructable, had survived a catastrophe, an earthquake, or the corrosion of termites.

 - Excerpt, Invisible Cities, Italo Calvino (1978)

So, this is part of what I’ve been working on for my Word and Image Comp. Lit. class’s final project. I’m looking at maps, and then attempting to map a few of Calvino’s 55 invisible cities. Here we have Armilla, the city of pipes. I am by no stretch of the imagination an artist or a cartographer, but I do think I did an okay job. The names are all loosely based on the mythology of nymphs and naiads, because they are the only ones who actually inhabit the city. It was fun to make up this city on the fly; now I just need to figure out what other cities I want to do.

Also, I’ve been up all night drawing this thing, excuse the groggy picture of myself. (woah, that’s GPOY)
